Women's Interclub Council (WIC)

Wic Boat

Officially organized in 1957, the Women's Interclub Council (WIC) is a non-profit social and educational group for women members of the Grand XIV Puget Sound Yacht Clubs. In fact, WIC instigated the fellowship of the Grand XIV.

Everett Yacht Club’s annual report for 1939 established the Everett Barnacles as the sub-organization for the club’s women folk. After several name changes, including Nauti-Gals for a while, the women’s group was renamed Women on the Water (WOW), but it was the Barnacles along with Tacoma Shipmates and Bremerton Skipperettes that formed the seed for WIC shortly thereafter.

Those women socialized with various combinations of other Puget Sound area yacht club women throughout the 1930s into the 1950s. Due to space limitations at the hosting clubs, the women decided to limit participation to just fourteen select clubs. By 1949, the friendships and camaraderie that developed between the women participating in WIC’s luncheons attracted the attention of their husbands and lead to the 14 clubs creating their own association, the Grand Fourteen.

Every other year, each member club hosts a luncheon and provides a speaker. The organization promotes opportunities for developing acquaintances and friendships among boaters through these luncheons.

After a period of inactivity, EYC’s early women’s group, the Barnacles, was replaced in 1972 by a new social group calling themselves the Nauti-Gals, with the purpose of encouraging social activities, promoting friendship and participating in WIC activities. A change in EYC’s by-laws in 1987-88 caused the Nauti-Gals to disband, a separate organization within EYC was disallowed. Instead they created a standing committee to continue on with the same purposes of encouraging social activities, promoting friendship and participating in WIC activities. Today we carry on those activities within EYC as WOW (Women On the Water) and the interclub activities with WIC.

From the WIC By–Laws
The purpose of this organization shall be to schedule and assist in carrying out an exchange of luncheons among the members of WIC on a non-profit basis and to promote friendship among boaters.

This is a wonderful opportunity to meet other boaters, establish new friendships, and learn about boating.

WIC has its own set of officers – President, Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer. The President can appoint a Parliamentarian, Historian and one or two Advisors, as she so desires. Offices are held in rotation by each club. Everett Yacht Club’s Linda Dishneau is WIC President in 2024, with Diane Winterroth remaining as WIC’s Parliamentarian.

A WIC Representative from EYC is appointed by the club's officers. The WIC Representative selects the WIC Alternate.

The WIC lunch schedule covers a one-year period. Lunches are scheduled from 11AM to 2PM on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Everett Yacht Club hosts the luncheon every other year in November, e.g. November 2024 and November 2026.

In addition to the seven luncheons per year, the WIC Representative and/or WIC Alternate are required to attend four Board Meetings, scheduled in February, March, October and November.

The cost for luncheons is between $25.00 and $35.00 per person and reservations are required in advance to the WIC Representative. The hosting club selects a charity to receive as donations any money after costs.
