Our Joining Process Overview

The Everett Yacht Club is one of the oldest and friendliest yacht clubs in the Puget Sound region.  We always welcome new members who share our passion for boating and wish to belong to our active community.

Prospective members must have an active interest in boating and are required to be sponsored by a current EYC member.  If you are not acquainted with any of our members, we’ll pair you with a member. Our Membership Committee can arrange for you to attend one or more of our social events and meet some of our members.

During the entire application process, you are invited and encouraged to attend all regular member events. Don’t be shy – jump in with both feet. This means that you need not wait for information, encouragement, or an invitation to get involved! Reach out to your sponsoring member or any Bridge Officer with any question or concern. Please consider volunteering – nothing creates a bond better than accomplishing something with somebody else!

At EYC, we are member operated. That means our members, folks just like you, are the people who volunteer to make the club successful and fun! Everyone's time is valued and skills embraced. As a club, we strive for a balance between being relevant to our member needs and honoring our rich maritime traditions. Being part of the Grand 14, traditions are vitally important to us; they will give you a sense of history and respect when flying your own Everett Yacht Club burgee.

Steps to Join

1. Get Acquainted. Visit our club any Wednesday either by invitation from a member or by simply introducing yourself. Consider visiting multiple times as you decide if our club is a good fit for you and your family. You may even inquire about attending one of our cruises or social events.

2. Meet our Members. During your visits you will have informal conversations(not interviews) with our Bridge Officers and individual members. Our Vice Commodore or the Membership Committee Chairperson will guide you through the process. Obtain a membership application either from a Club Officer, a member, or our website. If you are not acquainted with a member who may act as a sponsor, we will find one for you. This application process is not meant to be intimidating. We look forward to getting acquainted!

3. Complete the Online Signup Form. Once the signup form is completed and payment is received, your application process will continue. A completed application form must:

  1. Be completed in full and submitted by you (and your spouse/partner, if applicable).

  2. Be approved with the required Everett Yacht Club membership signatures.

  3. Include the Initiation Fee and prorated (by quarter) Annual Dues.

4. Reading the Application. On the next “1st Wednesday” or Club gathering after we receive the completed application and payment, we will read sections of your application aloud to the members in attendance. We will read your names, employment, boat information (if flag member), and reasons for joining. If you’re in attendance, we will invite you to tell us something about yourselves. In your absence, any acquaintances in attendance may share how they know you. We will repeat this process one more time on the following Wednesday. Your presence at these readings is not required but it is encouraged.

5. Induction Ceremony. You will be inducted into the Club at the first General Meeting (1st Wednesday of each month) or Change of Watch celebration that follows your second reading. You must be in attendance. The induction ceremony is quite simple (no uniform required). It requires an oath and many welcoming handshakes, applause and hugs. It is a 10-minute process that you’ll always remember.

You will receive your membership cards, burgee, membership directory, name badges and other small items.

We look forward to meeting you soon!
